"Proclaming the Word of God through Thoughts, Ideas, and Concepts"

Honwan Byrd - Cont'd

The documentary titled "I Know I Can - From Tragedy to Triumph" chronicles the life of Damont Goolsby, a young stroke survivor.

At age 23, he had a very fruitful life before the stroke. Having recently graduated from Morehouse College, Damont held a great job, enjoyed a lively social status and seemed to be in perfect health. In the midst of it all, he had a stroke that changed his life forever.

Coming face-to-face with the daunting task of learning to walk, talk and feed himself again, he rose above the obstacles to become gainfully employed by a non-profit corporation that actually helps stroke victims back into society as well as started a cleaning business. Through his new found faith in God, his family and loved ones, he no longer thinks he can, but knows he can, and he is.
"I Know I Can - From Tragedy to Triumph" gives people in bleak situations the strength to carry on despite the obstacles that they may face.

"Through his new found faith in God . . . , he no longer thinks he can, but knows he can, and he is."

Q: Why did you make this film?
A:
It isn't often that you hear about issues facing stroke victims. In addition, many people aren't aware of the warning signs of stroke. Statistics show that more than 500,000 people experience some form of stoke in America each year. And if the public is better educated about this debilitating disease, they may be able to prevent a stroke or counter the lasting effects of an untreated one.

Q: Why did you make Damont Goolsby the subject on this film?
A:
Damont Goolsby happens to be one of my closest friends. And therefore, it was a very emotional film to produce. However, it allowed me to revisit the tragedy that I buried in my mind so long ago. It also was therapy for Damont as well as the other stroke survivors featured in the film. After seeing themselves being applauded for their strength by film goers, they said that support gave them more strength to carry on.

Q: What do you want people to take away from the film?
A:
I wanted to give people who may be experiencing any difficult situation in their lives "Hope", despite whatever they're going through.
